Visit one of Costa Rica's Natural Wonders!

Celeste River is a river in Tenorio Volcano National Park of Costa Rica and notable for its distinctive turquoise coloration. It takes about 45 minutes to hike to the waterfall from the park's entrance. During the hike you will be pleased to see many examples of Costa Rica's flora and fauna.

The source of the river's distinctive turquoise color is due to a physical phenomenon known as Mie scattering. Celeste River is fed by two colorless rivers, the Buenavista River and Sour Creek. Buenavista River carries a large concentration of aluminosilicate particles with a small diameter. Sour Creek, as its name implies, has a high acidity due to volcanic activity. When these two streams mix to form Celeste River, the drop in pH causes the aluminosilicate particles to aggregate and enlarge. These suspended particles produce Mie scattering which gives the river a strong sky blue color.

After our hike in Tenorio national park we will venture to another portion of the lower rainforest where you'll enjoy a nature walk with a local expert guide. Here you'll see two-toed and three-toed sloths, monkeys, reptiles, birds of paradise, frogs, butterflies and so much more!

Lastly. we will enjoy a traditional Costa Rican lunch at a local "soda" restaurant, which also has a butterfly garden attached.
